School’s only been back a couple weeks…and you’re already bored of everything in your closet? Try these easy DIYs with those old clothes stuck in the back of your shelves.
Paint a design
Graphic tees are essential to any outfit rotation. This DIY only requires a plain tee, acrylic paint (or bleach), paint brushes, a sponge and some blank paper.
For a grunge vibe, try diluting bleach with water to paint your design on an old shirt or tank top. You can also find a design you like and print it out or trace it on paper for a ready-to-use stencil. After cutting out your design, you’ll want to secure it with tape onto your shirt. Like the bleach, dilute your acrylic paint with conditioner, and you’re ready to paint your next everyday tee.

Cut old clothes up
With some scissors and a vision, you can take an oversized tee and make a halter top or a tank top. This requires some light sewing, but nothing beginners can’t handle.
To make the halter top more school-appropriate, find a shirt that fits you and lay it on top of the larger shirt. You’ll want to mark where you’ll take in the shirt to make it more fitted. This can be done with chalk, safety pins or sewing pins. After that, with a needle and thread sew along where you marked, and your shirt should be more snug.

Add Grommets
Hardware like chains and grommets are another way to take a simple piece of clothing and make it more interesting. You can find them at any hardware store and (maybe with the help of an adult) are super easy to apply.
First, you’ll want to lay out where you want the grommets, mark their spot, then hammer away. If you want to make your design more cutesy, try weaving ribbon between the holes. You can even use grommets along the sides of your pants to give them a lace-up design. Your closet is your oyster!
