Our girl Freya Skye has been everywhere this year—from gracing the cover of our December/January ’25 issue to starring in Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires this summer to performing at her acoustic shows to hitting the stage at Jingle Ball. (We could not be more proud!) Now, it looks like she could be headed to the kingdom of Corona.
This week, reports surfaced that Freya has screen-tested for the role of Rapunzel in Disney’s upcoming live-action Tangled (alongside Gilli Jones, who screen-tested for Flynn Rider). In case that wasn’t convincing enough, Freya and the director of the film (Michael Gracey) have also recently followed each other on IG!
With her gorgeous blonde hair and amazing voice, we couldn’t think of a better gal for the part.
Who else is up for the role?

A few other familiar faces are also reportedly in the running, like Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Emma Meyers (Wednesday), Isabel May (Young Sheldon) and our former GL cover star Mckenna Grace! Some other names we’ve heard are Sarah Catherine Hook, Teagan Croft and Olivia-Mai Barrett.

The hunt for Flynn Rider is heating up, too. Besides Gilli Jones, Milo Manheim (yes, another Zombies star!) and Charlie Gillespie (Julie and the Phantoms) have also screen-tested for the role of Rapunzel’s trouble-making yet charming love interest.
When is the movie coming out?
A release date has yet to be announced, but it’s been reported that filming will begin in the UK next summer. Fingers crossed that we will know our Rapunzel and Flynn very soon!
Scenes we can’t wait to see IRL
While we wait for more news on the film (trust, you’ll be the first to know when we do), we’re getting excited about bringing some of our fave animated scenes to life IRL. What we’re most looking forward to?
The lantern scene 🎇

Fans of the animated Tangled know that this is the most iconic part of the movie—so naturally, it’s the scene we’re most stoked to see again on the big screen. Can you say dreamy?
Live-Action Pascal 🦎

What is Tangled without Punzie’s spunky sidekick, Pascal? We can’t wait to see what this curious chameleon looks like in the live-action adaptation.
Kingdom Dance Scene 💃

Remember the scene where Rapunzel and Flynn dance in Corona (and low-key start falling hard for each other)? We are excited to see how the charming village will be brought to life. We have no doubts that this scene is going to be full of colorful costumes, stunning music and fun choreography!
Rapunzel’s Hair Glowing ✨

Next to the lantern scene, this is probably the next magical scene in the movie—and we’re pumped to see the special effects.
The Hug (IYKYK) 😭

Definitely the most emotional part of the movie—we know we will need tissues for this one. 🤧 From Rapunzel’s hair being cut to Flynn almost dying to the most swoon-worthy hug in animation history, we will definitely be in for a rollercoaster of emotions.
