Good news for Daywalkers and vamps alike: As of this morning, Disney Channel has confirmed on their socials that Zombies 5 is *officially* in the works. According to today’s announcement, the highly anticipated next installment in the monster-filled musical franchise will be making waves on our screens in 2027. We’re breaking down everything we know (so far), from cast info to fresh characters to insider plot deets.
What will Z5 be about?
From what we’ve heard about Z5, it looks like a new kind of creature will be pulling up in Rayburn come 2027. If you guessed mermaids, major props.
Turns out the newfound peace between the once-rival monster squads is getting put to the test as a band of fierce mermaids arrive in town. It’s going to be up to dynamic duo Nova (Freya Skye) and Victor (Malachi Barton) to unite their groups and figure out exactly what the newcomers are after.
Could Rayburn be facing its most divided moment yet? Will the mermaids be fast friends or full-on enemies? And—maybe most importantly—are Nova and Victor endgame?
Who is returning from the previous movies?
While Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim (aka the king and queen of the Zombies flicks) will not be reprising their roles as Addison and Zed, they will both be working behind the scenes as executive producers.
Ofc, we can still expect to see Freya and Malachi on the big screen, as well as familiar faces Swayam Bhatia (as Vera), Mekonnen Knife (as Vargas), Julian Lerner (as Ray) and yup, our O.G. cheer rockstar Bucky!
Who are the new characters?
If you don’t know already (or ICYM the teaser that Disney Channel dropped this a.m.), Zombies 5 is going to revolve around a trio of mermaids, including Fin (Taylor Oliver), Pearl (Diaana Babnicova) and Sandy (Olive Mortimer). And those aren’t the only new characters we’re pumped to meet: Zed’s cousin and new transfer student, Izzy, will be played by Emily Costtrici.

Additional deets about the story and characters are still under wraps, but production is set to start this spring in New Zealand. Fingers crossed we’ll get a glimpse of some on-set photos—and maybe even a sneak peek of those mermaid tails soon. Consider us v. much hooked.
