Newsflash: It’s a fabulous day to be a Freya Skye fangirl. The singer, songwriter and star of Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires just dropped her brand new song, “silent treatment”.
If you weren’t one of the lucky concertgoers who nabbed tix to the Worlds Collide tour or her sold-out run of acoustic shows, fear not. We give you full permission to turn your bedroom into a mini arena by blasting this one at full volume. And trust, it lends itself to some scream-singing.
“silent treatment” tells the story of a relationship lost to lack of communication and it’s based on Freya’s real-life experience getting ghosted. But as sad—and all-too-relatable—as those situations can be, her unapologetic self-expression and raw honesty about what she’s been through is lowkey empowering.
That’s why we’re spilling three major love lessons we learned from Freya’s new track. So before you message that on-and-off crush of yours, you might want to read this…
@freyaOctober was fun but I’m ready for silent treatment hbu???♬ original sound – Freya Skye
Love lesson #1: Closure is never guaranteed.
As anyone who’s been in Freya’s shoes can tell you, nothing hurts more than a friend/crush/loved one going MIA for seemingly no reason. But it’s more common than you think—and you don’t always get a straight answer about why they pulled away.
“You hardly said goodbye/then casually walked out of my life,” she sings in the pre-chorus. “Read between the lines/Am I supposed to read your mind?” That all-consuming feeling of frustration stings, no doubt. Yet somehow it hurts less to think that you’re not alone (friendly reminder that it can happen to Freya Skye, too!).
Love lesson #2: Some personality combos bring instant chaos.
May we just say: Miss Skye can write a mean bridge. And this part of “silent treatment” is basically made for belting into a hairbrush in front of your mirror.
One of our personal fave lyrics? “You’re a narcissist/I’m an optimist/Name a deadlier combo.” Translation: Always trying to see the best in people—which comes naturally to the perpetually positive Freya—can sometimes lead to them taking advantage of your kindness. It’s an important reminder to trust your gut (aka if something feels just plain off about your ‘ship, don’t ignore that intuition).

Love lesson #3: That breakup blues? It can become something truly beautiful.
Freya herself shared arguably the most important takeaway from “silent treatment”: Even the worst heartbreaks can be transformed into something good.
“The song is about someone very close to you disappearing,” she reveals. “I wrote it during a time in my life when I was going through that. I came into the studio that day feeling particularly upset about it, but I’m super proud of the result. It’s a song that I love, and I hope everyone else does, too.”
