Dear Carol,
I’m going into middle school in the fall, and my BFF is going to a different one. We promised that we’d text over the summer and plan a lot of times to hang out, but I haven’t seen her that much?
-Missing my friend
Dear Missing My Friend,
Why haven’t you? Are you each waiting for the other to initiate? Text her now to see if she’s free this afternoon or tomorrow. Plan to go to a lake or pool or beach or amusement park. Or go to each other’s houses. Some people are better at reaching out than others, so if that’s you, don’t take it personally when friends are less adept at drumming up plans. What counts is if they text you back and say, “Sounds fun. I’m in!”
