We were living our best lives last week with 66 uninterrupted minutes of pure Conrad Fisher perfection, so of course, Jenny Han had to drag us right back to reality by opening this episode with Jeremiah and Belly in bed. Why they are waking up on a mattress on the floor is beyond me. Like…where is the bed frame?
Belly’s been in Boston with Jeremiah and Adam for two whole weeks. Ugh. She should’ve been in Cousins, rekindling things with Conrad. (I mean…hello? That peach scene had them both shook and feeling some type of way.)
Instead, she’s apartment-hunting with Jere so they can move in together in the fall. First of all, Belly should still be following her dream and moving to Paris, not playing house . Second of all, they shouldn’t even be at the “let’s get an apartment” stage. What is happening? Clearly, Conrad is the better choice.
Anyway, looks like they might not get the apartment because Jeremiah’s credit is trash, even though Adam literally pays off his credit card. But Jere decided to open another line of credit just to get free Bruins tickets. Of course he did. Classic Jeremiah. Even with his dad cleaning up his messes, he still manages to make more.
Then, Jere accidentally tells the apartment manager they’re “nearly wed” and the man immediately assumes Belly’s pregnant. They assure her she’s not, but…SEE? Not even this random stranger is on board with this wedding.
The thing about Jeremiah, he always assumes there’s an easy fix for everything. Newsflash: you’re an adult. Time to problem-solve. (You know who’s great at solving problems…Conrad. 👀)
Trouble in paradise already—they can’t find a place they like, they fight and just like that, Belly’s back in Cousins with Conrad. Yay! Jenny Han pops up for her seasonal cameo while Belly’s at the country club checking out wedding venues. We see you, Jenny. Literally.

But here comes round two of trouble: Adam is micromanaging every. single. detail. of this wedding, and Belly starts feeling like it’s not even hers anymore. Jeremiah talks her down (unfortunately) and convinces her they’re still making the right choice.
Also in case you didn’t notice, Belly’s inner monologue is BACK. Tell me Conrad awoke something in her without telling me Conrad awoke something in her.
Jeremiah calls Kayleigh aka Adam’s secretary aka the woman he cheated on Susannah with when she was first diagnosed, “a friend of the family.” Excuse me while I gag. Little does he know she’s a cheater…just like someone else we know. (And no, I did not forget about that Cabo cheating incident after five seconds like Belly apparently did.)
Meanwhile, Conrad cooks for Belly even though she’s not home (gentleman alert). He’s so cute. Steven’s coming to the bridal shower because Taylor invited him…rekindling vibes, anyone?
Also, the way Conrad knows Belly so well—he checked to see if she’d eaten the food he left. When he saw she hadn’t even touched the cookie, he knew she was upset, because Belly never turns down sweets. This is what pushed him to reach out to Laurel and convince her to support Belly at the wedding. Tell me again why her fiancé isn’t doing this? Jeremiah, take notes.
Jeremiah walks in on Kayleigh and Adam sharing a moment, which… yikes. If they still have this much chemistry, maybe Adam never actually stopped cheating. And what does Jere do? Knocks and pretends he didn’t see it. Conrad would’ve called him out right then and there like the man he is.

Conrad meets with Laurel in person. He finally tells her she’ll regret it forever if she’s not there for Belly. She asks if they’re speaking honestly and hits him with: “When do you get to be happy?” We already knew Laurel was Team Conrad, this just confirmed it.
Denise suddenly wants to start a tech company with Steven. Whiplash much? Like that came out of left field considering she “hated” him five seconds ago, guess that was all just an act.
Belly’s bridal shower looks like a gender reveal—so many pastels. But that moment she sees Laurel there? Tears. And all thanks to Conrad.
Jeremiah asks Conrad if he’s bringing a plus one and Conrad says no, so naturally Adam and Jeremiah suggest he flirt with some of Belly’s friends. (Um…read the room. The only person he should be flirting with at this wedding, or period, is Belly.) Then Adam drops that his plus one is Kayleigh, and Conrad immediately knows this has been going on for years, since Adam cheated on Susannah with her. But Adam, of course, lies and says it’s recent. Like father, like son.
Taylor tries to tempt Steven, but he friendzones her hard. Ouch. She plays it off, but it’s obvious she still has feelings. Don’t worry, Tay, if it’s meant to be, it’ll be. (Same goes for Belly and Conrad, except that’s not a wish, that’s a demand, universe.)
Belly was so sure that the memory she shared at her bridal shower was about Jeremiah…until Steven jumped in and was like, actually, that was Conrad. Later, when she brought it up to Jeremiah, he confirmed it too. And that kind of freaked her out. If she could mix up a happy memory like that, who’s to say she hasn’t done the same thing with her feelings, tethering something that belonged to Conrad and giving it to Jeremiah? Maybe she’s been mistaking friendship for something more all along.

Flashback time! Belly and Laurel are watching “Bye Bye Birdie,” which has a song about being in love with a boy named Conrad. And of course, Belly says she wasn’t singing about the one in the musical, but about her Conrad Beck Fisher. Like…it’s always been him.
AHHH it’s happening—we see Conrad heading out to surf and, if you’ve read the books, you know exactly what’s coming. OMG, dare I say this might be one of my all-time favorite yearning scenes. I’ve had years to prepare for it since the first time I read it, imagining exactly how it would look on screen…and still, nothing could’ve prepared me. Then, that moment, his head resting on her shoulder, the pause, the lingering eye contact that lasts forever yet somehow not long enough. It says everything without a single word. Not to mention we know how romantic Belly finds wet hair…IYKYK.
And then Jenny hits us with “False God,” the same song from their Season 1 moment, and wow, we were FED. The episode closes with Belly lowkey spiraling because she almost made a move, and it’s finally hitting her just how much her feelings for Conrad have re-entered the chat. Peaches scene and bathroom scene back to back? Jenny Han, ma’am, are you actively trying to send me into cardiac arrest?
Never in my life did I think we’d get blessed with these two scenes so close together. I’m dying. Dead. Deceased. That level of self-control? I have a feeling willpower is about to leave the chat very soon…please, for us Conrad girlies, I’m begging. Goodbye for now.
