She gave poetic names to her fave places, used her imagination to make life more exciting and always wore her heart on her sleeve.
Take a leaf from Anne’s book by injecting extra whimsy into everything you do this szn. Explore the wooded trail near your house, spread out on a picnic blanket with a book or unapologetically wear an extra outfit to school. Whatever you choose to do, do it like Anne (as in, with your whole heart).
Lara Jean Covey: Embrace The Unexpected
Lara Jean’s world turned upside down when her love letters made it to the hands of their unintended recipients. Her quiet, predictable life became a little scary and a lot more exciting…and it opened her heart to someone new.
If you learned anything from the swoonworthy, pastel-hearted world of TATBILB, it’s to open yourself to new opportunities. If Lara Jean hadn’t agreed to fake-dating Peter, she would’ve eventually fallen into the same routine and wouldn’t have fallen in love.
So take a chance and invite your cute lab partner to get matchas, start the astronomy club you’ve always wanted to create or (eek!) tell your crush how you feel. It might be scary at first, but imagine the possibilities.
Hermione Granger: Start Something New
While we can’t learn magic and fight evil in an enchanted school for wizards (still struggling to accept this hard truth), we *can* choose to embody our favorite witch. Hermione serves as a reminder to never hide your self-worth—in fact, you should embrace it! She was bold, brave and brilliant in everything she did, and while she could be a little abrasive (and we say that affectionately), she never let naysayers dim her shine.
If you’ve got a vision you want to see come true, whether it be a new club, creative project or social change, now’s the time to bring it to life. Even if it gets off to a rocky start (thinking of S.P.E.W. here), you’ll never know how much change you could make without trying.
Elizabeth Bennett: Give Second Chances
Pride & Prejudice is *the* gold standard for enemies-to-lovers, and it never fails to make us swoon. Lizzie and Mr. Darcy made their mutual dislike clear from the start…and lo and behold, they ended up together. Lizzie first saw Darcy as cold and proud. But with time, she came to see he was also intelligent, loyal and capable of change. What started as a hating game became a love story, and the same change of perspective can happen for you.
That annoying know-it-all in your math class? He might actually be nicer than you realize (and could end up helping you with trig functions). Your locker neighbor who’s your total opposite (you do soccer, she does theater) could be your new bestie. Whoever you decide to befriend, make sure you do it with an open heart and mind…and be prepared to be surprised.
Belly Conklin: Follow Your Heart
TSITP had us in a trance this summer (and we can’t wait for the movie to do the same). To call Belly’s love life messy would be a *huge* understatement. She’s changed her mind multiple times, experimented with new crushes and made spontaneous (and sometimes reckless) decisions. But she did it all in the name of love, and in staying true to herself.
While her indecisiveness was occasionally frustrating (it did kinda start online warfare), it was also what led her to find her true soulmate. Her big, ever-feeling heart guided every decision she made, and that’s a lesson we could all use more of. Don’t be afraid to go over the top this season. Who knows…maybe your whole life will change for the better.
