Potterheads, buckle up! Over a decade since the beloved book series became an iconic film franchise, both with fandoms that last lifetimes, the boy under the stairs is being revisited in a modern reboot of the OG series. HBO’s Harry Potter is scheduled to run sometime in 2027, and fans are already reeling in the wake of casting announcements, release dates and even surprise BTS filming photos. Keep reading for the whole scoop on all that is known about the soon-to-be iconic series.
Meet The Cast

After nearly a year of casually dropping hints and the casting of individual characters, the entire cast of the first season (which follows the plot of the first book and movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) has been dropped. Fans and newcomers alike are already buzzing with excitement and surprise. Composed of both acclaimed stars and fresh faces, the cast is a perfect blend of the new, the classic and the unexpected.
The golden trio has especially aroused excitement. With Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter himself, fans are relieved to see how the iconic roles are being filled. With the most recent announcement of the Weasleys (pictured above), Potterheads couldn’t be more excited for the new installment and all it has to offer.
A Closer Look
Taking on the adaptation of one of the most successful book series and film franchises of all time is no small feat. Luckily, Emmy-winning television writer and producer Francesca Gardiner, who is well-known for her work on the HBO series Succession, will serve as writer, producer and show runner. She’ll be joined for multiple episodes and production decisions by Succession‘s and Game of Thrones‘ Mark Mylod. Gardiner, who has stated that she identifies with Hermione Granger, is eager to take on the huge 10-year project, which promises to culminate in a new generation of Potterheads as well as a career-launching pad for budding young actors.
While not much is known about how exactly the series will be adapted (will Peeves make an appearance? How will Ron and Hermione’s love story be done? Will Harry *actually* have his mother’s eyes?), it is safe to say that the show will have every emerging fan hoping for their own letter from Hogwarts, no matter what is changed.
Behind The Scenes Magic

For months, HBO has been dropping tiny slices from BTS to keep fans excited. The above photo commemorates the first day of filming, a small but momentous moment for Dominic McLaughlin, who was stepping into the role for the first time. After wrapping up filming the Dursley scenes and then the Leaky Cauldron (in which Nick Frost was spotted fully Hagrid-ified alongside Dominic), @wizardingworlddirect announced that the Weasley family would be filming at King’s Cross Station until August 25th, this past weekend. As glimpses keep emerging, anticipation only grows for the series that is sure to be an instant success. Both a tribute to the originals and a fresh take on a classic series, it is clear from all we’ve seen that Harry Potter’s legacy is being honored just like magic.
