So. Much. Happened in Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty—breakups, makeups and all the drama in between. If you need a refresher before diving into season 3 on July 16th, here’s a quick recap to catch you up.
Episode 1
The season picks up right where we left off at the end of season one—or so it seems. A year has passed, but Susannah is gone. With tension rising between Belly, Laurel and Steven, it’s clear that everyone is grieving in their own way and still trying to figure out how to move forward. We see cute flashbacks throughout the episode of Conrad and Belly’s relationship, but it’s hard to piece together where it all went wrong. All we know is that Belly and Steven haven’t had any contact with Conrad or Jeremiah since the funeral.
Episode 2
Belly and Jeremiah set off to find Conrad after he goes missing. After finding out he ran off to Cousins, they set off on a road trip to go and track him down and get to the bottom of the sitch. We continue to see deeper flashbacks of Conrad and Belly’s relationship. We also have a very sentimental moment between Jeremiah and Belly, where he finally breaks down to her about how he’s been hurting that she wasn’t there for him, and how he’s still hurt from her breaking his heart last summer. They manage to find closure in this conversation and bounce back to their great relationship so quickly—almost as if nothing ever happened.
Episode 3
Conrad actually stormed off to Cousins to try to stop Aunt Julia from selling the beach house because of its importance to Susannah. After seeing more flashbacks where Belly and Conrad’s relationship begins to take a turn, their gut-wrenching almost-breakup scene is unveiled. We also see a very important flashback of Susannah’s funeral where Belly is so clouded by her feelings of jealousy that she completely lashes out at Conrad in front of everyone. Steven and Taylor decide to roadtrip to Cousins to join the rest of the gang, completely clueless to the complications they are facing.
Episode 4
Conrad’s transfer request to Stanford has been approved, which caused the panic attack about abandoning his brother. Aunt Julia arrives determined to see the sale of the beach house through. The gang decides to spend the hot summer day showing their cousin Sky around the boardwalk arcade and reminiscing about how they used to when they were younger.
Episode 5
Now that Aunt Julia has managed to remove the furniture from the beach house aka Susannah’s personal touches, the gang must find somewhere else to sleep. Now that they have reunited with Cam Cameron, he sneaks everyone into the country club where they crash for the night. We see sparks fly between Jeremiah and Belly in the screening room—and even Steven and Taylor have a moment in the ballroom. We see some more flashbacks that reveal how hard it was for Jeremiah to watch his brother be with the girl he still held feelings for.
Episode 6
The gang has concluded that while there is nothing else they can do to stop the sale of the house, they can still throw one last proper send-off party. We see some more moments between Jeremiah and Belly and even a few between Conrad and Belly (tea!). Milo, Taylor’s boyfriend (not that you’d remember, since he didn’t exactly leave a lasting impression), is officially out of the picture. With all the chemistry between Steven and Taylor this season, it was only a matter of time before something happened—and yep, we called it! A huge fight breaks out between Conrad and Jeremiah, and secrets that Conrad kept from Belly are revealed. This leads to the epic (and dare I say one of my favorite) scenes that was modified in the show from the OG series—the iconic “I thought you knew” beach moment. *Chef’s kiss.*
Episode 7
After receiving a very distraught voicemail from Belly about how everything was going wrong (the boys, the loss of the beach house *and* everything else falling apart), Laurel shows up at the beach house the next day to find it trashed. She takes out this frustration on Belly, leading to a big breakthrough. Now that the tension is resolved, Laurel agrees to hear out the gang and help in any way she can. She manages to convince Adam to buy back the house from Aunt Julia so the boys can keep it, and everyone is relieved with this victory. Steven, Belly and Jeremiah stay behind to help Conrad study for his final so he can keep his spot at Stanford. Conrad reveals to Steven that he still has feelings for Belly, and Steven convinces him to go for it (as long as he doesn’t break her heart again).
Episode 8
Just when Conrad is ready to tell Belly how he feels, he is distraught to find her and Jeremiah having a moment. This leads to a fight between him and Belly where he says a lot of hurtful things he’ll soon regret. (He eventually takes these back later in the episode, DW). Belly is torn once again with the decision of choosing between the two brothers but she ultimately ends up choosing Jeremiah. The season ends with Jeremiah and Belly together and Conrad unpacking the beach house filled with easter eggs, which I know all my fellow readers caught on to.
Now you’re all caught up and ready for season 3! Are you ready to see how it all comes to an end and how it finally unfolds?
