Former GL cover star and Descendants: The Rise of Red icon Kylie Cantrall dropped her debut EP, B.O.Y., and it’s everything we dreamed of (and then some_.
In her Instagram post announcing the EP’s release, Kylie shouted out her biggest musical influences including pop legends like Britney Spears, Aaliyah, Brandy and Janet Jackson, “all mixed together in some sort of Bratz doll blender with a li’l hint of matcha to give it the Kylie flavor.” Designed to feel like a live show, the songs seamlessly transition into the next, turning a casual listen into a front-row seat at an imaginary Kylie tour, perf for living out your pop star fantasies.
Her newest single “See U Tonight” also features YUNAH and MINJU of ILLIT, the viral K-pop girl group created from the hit show R U Next?. With ILLIT’s own record-breaking debut (they became the first K-pop girl group to chart globally on Spotify with a debut single!), this collab is def one for the books.
Beyond the singles, B.O.Y. dives even deeper into Kylie’s world. You’ll get to hear some familiar voices on the EP as Kylie’s real-life BFFs Sharlize True and Malia Baker pop in on “Sharlize & Malia” for a fun convo about what kind of boys they would be. In “Kyle’s Interlude,” Kylie channels her inner alter ego, voicing a fictional boy leaving a cringey late-night voicemail (think classic “it’s not you, it’s me” energy), turning the typical apology-text-at-midnight into something funny and totally on her terms.
Tracks like “Boy For a Day” and “Boy is Yours” tie right back into the EP’s title, putting a fun, fresh spin on what B.O.Y. really represents. Or, as Kylie herself puts it: “B.O.Y. is a state of mind.” Through these songs, she flips the script to explore all things relationships and what it means to be a girl, proving that girlhood isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Other highlights include the previously released banger “Denim,” and “Raised by Rihanna,” a tribute to her ultimate idol, packed with nods to RiRi’s greatest hits (“Shut Up and Drive,” “Diamonds”…need we say more?).
From Disney darling to certified pop princess, Kylie’s stepping into a whole new era. With B.O.Y., she’s showing the world exactly who she is in a way that is playful, powerful and 100% Kylie.
