Picture this: Summer’s whizzing by, and your dream of becoming a YouTuber seems like it’s totally out of reach. DW—because we’re here to help you turn your dreams into reality. So get your phone, your tripod and your amazing personality because that 100k YouTube subscriber plaque is calling your name!
Pick your niche
When starting a YouTube channel, you want to pick a niche. Think about the things that you’re passionate about—maybe that’s makeup and skincare, crafts, gaming, sports or even funny skits with your friends. Your channel can be anything that excites you—and don’t worry, you can always rebrand if your interests have changed.
Customize your channel
Time for the fun part: customizing your channel! Create a username and write a short bio so your audience knows a little bit about you and what to expect from your channel. Get creative when designing your banner—you want one that encapsulates your channel’s vibe. (Pro tip: Canva has a variety of YouTube banner templates that you can customize to your liking. Easy and customizable to you.)
Your equipment
There are 3 important (yet simple) pieces of equipment every YouTuber needs: a camera to film on, editing software and good lighting. DW, there’s no need to break the bank and rush into buying an expensive camera just yet. If talking to the camera stresses you out, it’s totally OK to film on your phone (many creators started their careers by filming on their phone).
Overwhelmed with the editing process? CapCut mobile and desktop are great editing softwares for beginners.
And, as a reminder, lighting is *everything,* so film in front of your window with as much light as possible. It’s best to have natural light shining on you rather than behind you to give you that all-natural glow.
Practice makes progress
The only way to get comfortable in front of the camera is with practice. So film *everything.* Trying a new coffee shop? Film it. Going to the beach with your girls? Whip out your camera. (Pro tip: Treat the camera like you’re on FaceTime gossiping with your bestie.)
Every creator starts somewhere—and the more you do it, the more confident you’ll get. Don’t overthink it, just be yourself and you’ll find your groove.
Build your community
There are so many different ways to grow your audience on YouTube. If you’re not comfortable creating long-form content juuust yet, take baby steps and post your short-form content to YouTube shorts. Create a realistic posting schedule that works for you and stick to it—consistency is key. Use eye-catching thumbnails and titles, and respond to comments to build your subscriber community.
Most importantly, have fun, stay true to yourself and don’t forget to tell your friends and family to subscribe to your channel. We can’t wait to support you on this journey!
