We all know the feeling—cramps, discomfort *and* bloating. Yeah, that’s the typical once-a-month visit. For me, there is no worse feeling than cramps, but DW—I’ve unlocked some simple secrets to making those five days feel like nothing.
Heating and hydration is the foundation
Drinking water is essential for everything, but even more so while on your cycle. If you’re looking for something warm to soothe those pesky stomach aches, tea is also a great option. (I personally love chamomile tea, but ginger and green tea are equally good options.)
Speaking of warmth, heating pads offer another way to relax and calm your cramps. If you don’t have access to a heating pad, using warm water in a water bottle works just as well. (Protip: Be careful handling anything that’s hot for long periods of time, especially if you’re using it on skin.)
Unbend and unwind
I know the feeling of those mornings when you wake up with the inexplicable pain in your back. Stretching is an easy way to not only recenter your body, but also recenter your mornings. Take some time to feel what your body is feeling. Instead of spending thirty minutes in bed doom-scrolling on TikTok (been there), try taking deep breaths and stretching it all out.
Food is your friend
I mean DUH, but it can be easy to get caught up in all the feels of our cycle and forget to take care of ourselves. While it’s important to refrain from too much processed food, listen to your body and your cravings. Sometimes, that means eating a salad, and sometimes it’s a burger and fries. Don’t forget: what works for others might not work for you.
