Incorporating a couple of self-care habits into your daily routine can positively impact your day—and even the rest of your week. We’re talking journaling, limiting social media (you know you need to) and taking the time to give back to your community. Simple ways you can be the best version of yourself? Now that’s something worth making time for.
Practice gratitude
Taking a few minutes out of your day to write 3 things you’re grateful for can truly make you feel happier. Journaling isn’t just for the aesthetic—it trains your brain to think about all the good things in your life and helps to alter your perspective on things in a healthier, more positive way.
Do a digital detox
Limiting social media and scheduling “no screen” time (yes, that includes your iPad and laptop) can give your brain and eyes a rest (and maybe even fix your sleep schedule). Social media can be draining, so why not spend time being present with your friends and family IRL instead of doomscrolling? (Your future self will thank you.)
Get up earlier
Setting your alarm 30 minutes earlier than usual helps you get a head start on your day. No more rushing to school and forgetting to pack your homework—we’re using those extra minutes to make our bed, have a good breakfast and possibly even journal. Trust us, you’re going to love how stress-free your morning is going to feel.
Eat smarter snacks
Goodbye potato chips, hello fruits. Swapping junk food for healthier alternatives isn’t about being restrictive, it’s about fueling your body and giving it the right nutrients to help you feel energized throughout the day. DW, healthy food doesn’t have to be boring—you can find plenty of yummy lunch and smoothie recipes from us.
Talk kindly to yourself
It’s time to ditch that inner voice that’s tearing you down and become your own hype man. Showing yourself self-love isn’t selfish—it helps boost your self-esteem, making you unstoppable. Whenever self-doubt creeps in, instead of saying “I’m not cut out for this,” swap it for “I am totally capable of this, and I’m so proud of myself.” Changing the way you speak to and about yourself helps unlock your full potential and sets you up for success.
Work out
Moving your body daily through yoga, pilates or going for a walk around your neighborhood can boost your brainpower, which is def needed for those long study days ahead. Even just a 15-minute sweat sesh can flip your mood and make you feel confident. (And yes, using your free will to have a solo dance party in your room totally counts.)
Give back
Take time out of your day to volunteer for causes that matter to you, like at a charity event, animal shelter or simply gathering your friends to clean up the park. Small acts of kindness can make a difference in your community and make someone’s day just a little brighter. When you volunteer, you can also bond with new faces, and get to see firsthand how much of an impact one small thing can have on your city or town.
