You likely already know your sun sign—aka your main Zodiac identity. But to actually understand your astro identity, you should look at the full picture (and that includes your moon sign). Ever wanted to know how to calculate your lunar aura? We’ve got the how-to.
Calculating your moon sign
Calculating your moon sign involves some complicated math. While you can always make the calculations yourself if you’re a math whiz, digital calculators make the process wayyy more efficient.
To calculate your moon sign, you need to know your time of birth, date of birth and place of birth (since your moon sign is a result of where the moon was in the sky when you were born). Once you know these essential pieces of info, head over to this calculator to input your stats.
The math of moon signs is not exact, but here’s a general breakdown:
Your year of birth: With your year of birth, locate the corresponding number in the following table. If your number has a “+1” attached to it, that just indicates a leap year—don’t worry about it.

Your month of birth: In the table underneath, locate the number that corresponds to your month of birth!

Birthday: Time for the math. Sum these values: corresponding number to year of birth + corresponding number to your month of birth + day of birth. If the sum is between 0 and 28 inclusive, no need to do anything—keep the sum in your mind! If the sum is between 29 and 54, however, subtract 27 from your sum.
Finding your sign: Finally! Now that you have the sum, check the result of your moon sign in the following table.

After figuring out your moon sign, you may be wondering it means. DW, we’ve got the breakdown right here.
