While we heart a classic V-day date (who doesn’t want an excuse to get dressed up in pink and red for a candlelit dinner?), there’s something undeniably perfect about celebrating your bond with your soul sisters on the day of love. Crushes are great, but they’re also confusing, stressful and emotionally exhausting. Your *real* besties, on the other hand, will always be there to hype you up, give you amazing advice and have a good time. Still need convincing? Here are our top reasons why Galentine’s Day > Valentine’s Day.
There’s Less Pressure

Valentine’s Day is all about romance, which is great for you and your boo if you’re at that level. But if you’re in a weird talking stage, kicking things off with a new S.O. or stuck in a confusing situationship, the pressure to make things perfect and romantic can lead to weird, uncomfy and totally awk vibes. Dates on the holiday carry expectations for endless flirting, deep convos and peak swooning, which suddenly adds a lot more gravity than just another movie marathon.
A Galentine’s Day hang with your gals, on the other hand, doesn’t demand a grand, rom-com-worthy extravaganza. You get to be yourself, without any pressure to dress up, look perfect or act like a princess (although that is very much encouraged if that’s your vibe).
Single ≠ Excluded

Whether you’re loving the single life or wishing you were coupled up, Valentine’s Day inevitably comes with a bit of FOMO. Every Story is suddenly filled with cute couple posts, each store is full of romantic gifts, you know the deal. It’s easy to feel jealous when the world is suddenly head over heels for love. But being single shouldn’t be a hindrance to loving the holiday. Love comes in all forms, including for your besties (and they will always be there for you, no matter the current status of your love life).
Celebrating Your Friends Is…Kinda The Best

Your boo deserves plenty of appreciation on Valentine’s Day. But…how often is it that you get a day just to celebrate your gal pals? Friends are often taken for granted. Throw a party to thank them for every time they’ve gotten you your favorite lavender matcha to get you through to soccer practice, or they’ve decorated your locker for your b-day, or they’ve reminded you of how great you are when you get a bad grade on a quiz.
If you’ve got good ones, Galentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show each other how much you care. Swap gifts, share your fave memories or present silly slideshows about each other. Whichever way you choose to celebrate, now is the time to show them just how much they mean to you.
